Third World migration has for a long time been ignored, but is quickly making its way into the spotlight as scholars and policymakers alike are beginning to recognize its potential developmental implications.

Indeed, the PRC's central and local governments place particular emphasis on the role of overseas Chinese in developing the country's provinces.
